Jean-Michel Basquiat
He was an American artist of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent, born in 1960 and died prematurely in 1988. He left a significant mark on the art world with his unique and expressive style, and is considered one of the most influential artists of the late 20th century.
Basquiat began his career as a graffiti artist on the streets of New York City, signing his work with the pseudonym "SAMO." His art was a mixture of words, symbols, abstract images, and human figures, and dealt with themes such as African-American history, politics, racism, and popular culture.
In the early 1980s, Basquiat captured the attention of the art world and became known for his striking, energetic paintings. He collaborated with pop artist Andy Warhol and had solo exhibitions at renowned galleries.
Sadly, Basquiat struggled with health issues and addiction throughout his life, and died at the age of 27. Despite this, his artistic legacy lives on and his work is recognized and valued to this day. His paintings express a unique and raw vision of the world, and his influence spans generations, inspiring artists and admirers around the world.
